The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the highest ranked scientific research organisations in the world. A postdoctoral position is available in the Sachse group in the area of structural cellular biology. The successful candidate will work in a collaborative environment together with structural biologists and electron microscopists to study cellular autophagy complexes using in situ cryo-EM methods. Experience in cell biology as well as structural approaches such as X-ray crystallography or electron microscopy are desired. The aim of the project will be to visualize autophagy assemblies in situ in eukaryotic cells.
EMBL hosts a unique and vibrant 3D-EM community with expertise in structural biology cryo-EM as well as cellular EM. The cryo-EM facilities at EMBL are outstanding and house two FEI Titan Krios, a Talos Arctica and Polara equipped with state-of-the-art direct electron detectors. In addition, we have a FEI Scios FIB-SEM instrument for thin specimen preparation. A contract of 1 year will be offered to the successful candidate.
