|PCI has been working to strengthen Syrian grassroots peace processes since March 2013. Over the past three years, we have collaborated with the Center for Civil Society and Democracy in Syria to build capacity for, and to consolidate, greater community engagement and coordination between local, national and international initiatives. We are beginning a new phase in our Syria programme, which involves the coordination of a number of projects and activities. These include piloting a consultation process for Conflict Sensitive Assistance (CSA) to Syria, and training events under the Youth Empowerment and Participation in Public Affairs project.
The Project Coordinator leads on the coordination of planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and administration of the Youth Empowerment and Participation in Public Affairs project. In collaboration with our local Syrian partner, the project works with a diverse group of young people engaged in civic activism and interested in peacebuilding. The Project Coordinator role will focus on ensuring strong and on-going coordination across all activities and that PCi delivers its agreed outputs and deliverables on time and to budget. The post-holder works closely with our local partner to ensure their systems and procedures are robust and in compliance with PCI and donor requirements. S/He leads a small project team, and works closely with other PCi colleagues who will provide technical input to this project. The Project Coordinator, in close collaboration with other senior team members, provides regular briefings as required by the donor and closely reviews and revises the project’s risk mitigation strategy.
The position is for 10 months in the first instance, with the intention that it will be extended in line with available funding and subject to satisfactory performance and mutual agreement.
Educated to degree level, preferably in Business Administration, International Development, International Affairs or a related discipline, you will have at least five years of experience in organisational administration, ideally in a development-related field. You must have excellent written and verbal skills in English; fluency in Arabic would be a plus. You must be a self-starter and have proven experience in project management (planning, implementation, financial reporting, and monitoring and evaluation). Your excellent attention to detail, can-do attitude, ability to be result-focused, and ability to motivate both staff and partners will be demonstrated in your successful delivery of projects. Along with strong presentation and excellent interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence and self-awareness, you will be able to demonstrate the ability to build effective working relationships with persons of different backgrounds, experiences and views.
