ABOUT THE POSITION:    

The Anasoma Project is a two-year pilot in Kenya aimed at promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment through digital reading. This project will set the basis to mainstream gender equality throughout all Worldreader work and programs.

Worldreader is seeking qualified candidates to conduct a quantitative and qualitative research on the barriers and drivers to female readership.

The research will consist of surveys to the general public and Worldreader users, as well as more in depth consultations with a restricted number of individuals through Focus Group Discussions.

In coordination with Worldreader’s Gender Specialist and the East Africa Director, the Consultant will be responsible for the overall coordination of the research Project to understand barriers and drivers to female readership.

The consultant will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Support the coordination of the pilot research project;
  • Development of research tools and questionnaires to understand male and female’s reaction and interest to mobile reading;
  • Provide oversight to in-country partners in the implementation of the project, mainly supporting the setting up of books clubs;
  • Conduct focus groups discussions with men, women, adolescent girls and youth
  • Conduct Training of Trainers on gender equality and qualitative research;
  • Data collection, analysis and report writing;
  • Technical support to the Worldreader team on the acquisition of new empowering content;
  • Technical support to develop the final outreach strategy to increase female readership;
  • Submitting deliverables monthly report.

Candidate Attributes:

Ideal candidates will posses many or all the following qualifications:

  • University degree in social science, gender, development studies, economics;
  • At least 5 years’ experience in managing programs on gender in Kenya;
  • Solid experience in conducting qualitative research, focus group discussions, key informant interviews with a variety of socio-demographic group;
  • Experience in facilitating consultations with youth and adolescent girls;
  • Strong experience in coordinating and liaising with a variety of stakeholders, including non government organizations and grassroots organizations;
  • Proven experience in report writing;
  • Excellent command of English and Kiswahili

Location:

The Consultant will work closely with various members of the team on the ground in Kenya and especially with the Worldreader Gender Specialist and the East Africa Director.

Duration:

Consultant will be engaged for a total 165 days within a period of 11 months running from September 2016.
