Job Description:

This role plays a major part in the Programme Management Team and is responsible for building and maintaining a strategic portfolio of development programming in Africa from across our institutional donor base.  This post is expected to grow our funding and enable us to play a key role in delivering on our Global Programme Strategy.



Success in this post means building and managing a strong regional portfolio, based primarily on winning bids from key institutional donors.  The post holder will need to work closely with DFID, other key donors and CI country offices as well as technical leads from across the Care confederation to do so. 

The post holder will have a good understanding of programme design and a track record of winning bids.  Knowledge of commercial contracts and consortium management will be helpful.   They will be a strong programme manager and have knowledge of Care’s areas of expertise - food and nutrition security including  climate and resilience), sexual, reproductive and maternal health, Women’s economic empowerment and gender, inclusive governance and well as experience of working in an African context is an advantage.  

The post holder will be responsible for the direct management of the current and future Africa portfolio and as such will need to have strong financial and risk management skills.  They will work closely with the finance officer in their team, finance teams in country offices and our finance department.  The post holder needs to be an experienced risk manager – able to consider, mitigate and deal with risk issues, as well as able to represent the Africa team on the CIUK risk board chaired by the CEO. 

We value high quality team and line management.  The post holder will be responsible for 9 team members and potentially future recruitment.  Setting direction for the team as well as individuals will be important.  The team has a learning and development budget and the post holder will be responsible for supporting team members continue their professional development and manage the skills mix in the team.
